The Introduction

This whole blog idea came about over having a beer with the wife last night at The Independent, a great local bar here in Tampa, Florida, where I live. She stated that I should start a travel blog. She also mentioned my having a huge wanderlust, as well having a way of telling a story. This is her basis for why I should start this blog. This is the part where I cringe a bit and think internally, "No. I don't think I really can tell a story. I'm not a good writer." however, I nodded in agreement. I acquiesced in that placating way we husbands do.

Well, that conversation obviously got me thinking today, and now here we are, starting a travel blog. Blogger is a no brainer, especially as I run my band's blog here as well. I needed a name and a domain that really conveyed who I am and what this is all about.

So who am I, and why do I think I can do a travel blog? My name is Jordan Medlen. I am a father, a husband, a musician and more. I am the bassist for Aurorae, a metal band that I started with my brother Justin. By day I work in Information Technology, however, that's just what I do to support my vices.

I have been known to write in the past and have recently started doing so again, though I wouldn't consider myself a writer per se.

As a musician, I love many styles of music. From classical to extreme metal. If the music moves me, I am into it. I mostly have an affinity for heavy and extreme music styles, and this is where the metal head part comes in for the blog name.

When I was younger, my family would take vacations. We mostly drove, and it always seemed the destination was something of historical importance. My mother, being a huge history buff, as well as being into genealogy, would have us going all over the place to see various historical landmarks.

I have seen many places along the eastern seaboard of the US. Rarely having crossed the Mississippi River in my time, there is much ground for me to cover out west. The US is something that I take a bit for granted, as I am sure many of its citizens do when traveling. Just something for me to address.

I have traveled for pleasure. I have traveled for business. I just love to go somewhere. It's not like I thought, "Well, I think I am gonna start traveling now that I am able to do so more now. Hey! Why don't I start a travel blog to go along with it?". No. I have been traveling for a while now. So, I will most likely start documenting some of my past trips, while mixing in the new trips as they come.

You'll get to know more about me as this progresses, but I figured I would give a small bit of who I am and what this is about.

Cheers!
