Favorite Albums of 2022
The time is here to provide my list of the albums I spun the most in 2022. There were a few, so not a long list.
1. Drug Church - Hygiene
My brother turned me onto Drug Church a few years ago and I fell in love. This album is stellar from the start with Fun's Over until the final song, Athlete on Bench. This album was well worth the wait from the last album. Got to also finally catch Drug Church live this past year and man, that was the best show I have been to in years.
2. Lorna Shore - Pain Remains
I would hope by now, love 'em or hate 'em, you've heard of Lorna Shore. Yes, yes... I know they have been around since 2009, but they just weren't my thing. What's changed? Well, I think the fact of how personal Will Ramos is. His addition to the band and along with it, his personality and just the way he allows a connection with the fan base is refreshing. He draws you in. While the EP that he debuted on was great, this entire body of work is stellar from start to finish. I loved all the singles that dropped before the album came out and then when the Pain Remains trilogy was released, good god. Watching every metal head on the planet break down, well, let's just say, nice to see how many compassionate and empathetic humans do exist on this bleak planet. Yeah, even my eyes welled with tears. How can one not?
Also got to see this band headline this latest tour and the show at the new Orpheum in Tampa was perfect for this whole thing to go down. Can't wait to see how fast these guys take off from here.
3. Brutus - Unison Life
Another killer band my brother introduced me to. This album is just freaking great. I love the punky vibe of this album. Victoria is a great anthemic type song while What Have We Done and the rest of the album has every song that can hold it's own. This band will be at Welcome to Rockville in May '23 and is certainly a reason to go in itself.
4. Amorphis - Halo
I love this band. Have since the 90's and continue to hold them high on many lists. Hell, my band, Aurorae, has had the pleasure of opening for Amorphis. This album came out while I was in Spain early 2022 and was a great way to enjoy the train ride from Madrid to Malaga. So many gems on this album and it's just a solid release from these guys as you would expect.
While we wait to see what 2023 has in store for music fans, tell me about your top albums in the comments.
